I bought 2 of these thermometers for my crested geckos. A week went by and one of the thermometers went crazy! Part of it worked, well part of it didn’t. I replaced the batteries, but it was obvious before I replaced it, it was broken! However my their thermometer is still working fine. So, it’s a 50/50 if you get a good one, or if your thermometer breaks in a week or less. Very disappointed in this buy! Do not buy, unless your willing to take the risk!
Update, so even though one of them broke quickly, it was very accurate before it died, and the other one is still doing fine, and still is very accurate with the humidity and temature.

It takes a long time for the thermostat to show. In this day and age of instant results, waiting for the thermostat to show the real temperature in the room feels like an eternity. Alternatively if you want to leave it at a place and it sits there all the time then I guess you are ok. However there is no backlight, meaning you can’t read the screen if the room is dark. I will have to first get out of the bed, turn on the light, read the screen and then turn off… again too much for me.

They were pretty accurate however one is already broken. I had left one out on my covered porch while it was raining and it literally broke from the humidity. The reader itself did not get wet it just read 100% humidity and then the screen got stuck and hasn’t worked since.

Have had it since June, it has already failed. Not the battery, battery still has some juice, but the screen and numbers either dont appear at all or partially appear. Less than 6 months old. Do not recommend.

A little history: I moved from a mountainous desert area to a low level semi-humid area and have never had any real experience with humid situations. Yeah, I’ve had condensation develop on the windows when we were cooking a hearty meal but it quickly dissipated & no worries. Mold is something you don’t get much of in a high mountainous desert area … or at least from my experiences.
Now however I have condensation on my windows constantly. I have sitting water in my window tracks. From what I’ve read, living in a semi-humid to humid area, one needs to keep an eye on it. I initially bought an 8″ Thermometer/ Hygrometer to keep tabs on my humidity but soon realized the unit is off. How far off & in which direction I don’t know. I need a verification unit & ThermaPro has quite a few good reviews so here I am.
The manufacturers claim these units are within one to two degrees in temperature & within 3% humidity. Unfortunately for me, I can show a discrepancy with the hygrometer.
As I mentioned, I have a constant supply of condensation on my windows which would definitely go along with a 62% humidity reading ( /-3%) I was getting with my 8″ diameter hygrometer. We’ve had a night where we were steaming broccoli & the hygrometer went up to above 85% so I know it is rotating & therefore functioning.
While the ThermaPro TP49 digital thermometer is accurate to within a degree of actual temperature, there is a 10% difference in the hygrometer. So which one is accurate? I would lean toward the TP49 per the manufacturers description. However, talking with my neighbor, he lent me his ThermaPro TP50 that he’s had for roughly a year or more. Again, to further my disappointment I find a 7% difference between the two ThermaPro’s with a total range of 18% difference between the three units. So … how accurate does it need to be to useful?
At least I have a rough idea of what the humidity in my humble abode is … somewhere between 43% & 62%.
Perhaps I am reading too much into this but I now wonder how accurate these ThermaPro units are? I know my 8″ is off but by how much I still do not know. These two ThermaPro digital units are now worthless in terms of hygrometer measurements. I will return my neighbors to him but should I return my TP49 to Amazon? For $9 is it worth it? Unless I can get an accurate reading from somewhere it does me no good.

The size is great and it’s very easy to read. We live in the Midwest and it’s very cold. This little gadget is about5 degrees lower than our thermostat. I have move it around the house but the difference stays, so I want to give it some time trying it out.
One thing that concerned me when registering it for the warranty is a warning that popped up saying I would have damage to my phone if I proceeded with the registration. I don’t if it was some scam but needless to say I didn’t continue with the process.
I am going to keep moving this around the house comparing reading. I mostly bought it for humidity, and I don’t have any comparison, so I will hope it’s accurate.
Edit – it continues to be lower in temperature than any other thermometer, usually 4 degrees lower. I bought it for humidity, that’s what I want to check and have nothing to compare it to. Since it’s off on temp I am guessing it’s off on humidity and that’s disappointing.

Great price. Temperature is accurate, but humidistat is not. If I wouldn’t have thrown away the packaging I would have sent them back.

I purchased this item because the picture made it look easy to read. Shame on me for not looking at the dimensions!! It is 2 ” x 3″ and you need a magnifying glass to read the temp.
Yikes!!
