TP980 TempSpike Pro Wi-Fi Meat Thermometer-2 Probes

Great

Disappointing. I've used Thermopro's wired probes (TP17) and instant read thermometers for years and never had a single problem. Unfortunately I can't recommend the TempSpike at this time. I guess I expected a little more for something costing well over $100.

Pros:
- The main part (tip) of the probes seems to be fairly accurate (+/- 5 degrees of my other known good thermometers).
- The wireless range appears to work as advertised. Have not tried remotely accessing from beyond the home wifi signal range though.
- Probes seem to be reasonably durable, and clean up nicely after use.
- I love the idea of having both the base station (for out at the grill/smoker) and the app (for when I'm in the house). Would be better if there were more controls on the base station (like adjust probe set temp up/down).

Cons:
- One probe reports the battery is more than half dead after just an hour of use, while the other still shows a full charge.
- Probes are short and fat, and since they have to be inserted to the hilt, this can make probe placement difficult on many cuts of meat.
- If you don't leave the probes on the charger, charging all the time, they will be low or dead when you go to use them. Make some permanent counter space to store the "dock".
- The "ambient" temperature feature is completely useless. It never reports anywhere near the grill/smoker temp. I'm talking over 100 degrees off! The sensor is likely too close to the meat end vs the far external end of the spike "handle". I don't understand how this even made it out of quality control.
- The base station cycles through all four probes (white, black, red, yellow) when manually cycling using the probe button, even though I only have 2 probes paired. Annoying when quickly trying to check between the two. You also can't just display both probes temps at once on the screen.
- Speaking of adding probes, one reason I bought this 2 probe version was I thought I could easily add the other 2 in the future. Adding the red and yellow probes costs as much as I paid for the whole unit with base station etc!
- The App is almost worthless, the UI non-intuitive, and features such as custom temp settings don't seem to save correctly.
- If I switch off the unit using the base station power button, a few minutes later my phone screams at me about "lost communication"...well yeah, I powered it down using the supplied power button!

In all, for the sale price this almost always seems to be at (~50% off MSRP) this seems like it has the possibility of being a truly great product, as most of the issues I've had could likely be corrected with a software update/firmware fix (apart from the useless ambient temp sensors).

The only issue and it is a serious one, is the TempSpike Pro keeps dropping its connection to the probe. This applies to the base station and Iphone app. Leaving one the the dark as to the cooking process.

I have owed so many items from this manufacturer, never ever again. We had this until for less than two weeks and it never worked after two days. never worked again no matter what I tried. Nothing, I’m so ?ucking angry. My wife is so angry with me for wasting the money on it she hasn’t talked to me in a week. I believe she even throw it away after throwing it at me. I will make sure every social media group knows how this company steal from their clients, sell a used or defective product. I reached once and received no response, I will never ever trust this company again. It just shows so much disrespect and lack of client services, it’s disgusting. What a waste of $130.00 I will make sure everyone knows, just more Chinese bullshit, you should be ashamed of yourself as you have caused me so much grief and pain and at age 61 I don’t deserve any of it.
