Recipe Preparation
- 1.5 lbs. Italian Sausage
- 2 Red Bell Peppers, thinly sliced
- 2 Green Bell Peppers, thinly sliced
- 1 Yellow Onion, thinly sliced
- 1/2 tsp. Garlic Powder
- 1/2 tsp. Dried Basil
- 1/2 tsp. Dried Oregano
- 1/4 tsp. Salt
- 1-15 oz. Can of Whole Peeled Tomatoes
- 1/4 cup Water
- 2 Tbsp. Tomato Paste
- 1.5 cups Shredded Mozzarella
- 4 Hero Rolls
- Chopped Fresh Basil, to garnish
Step Description

Preheat your grill or grill pan to medium-high heat. Grill sausages for about 2 minutes on each side until grill marks appear. Set aside and slice into 1” pieces.

Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add sliced onion and sauté for 3–5 minutes until softened and slightly browned.

Add green and red peppers, garlic powder, dried basil, oregano, and salt. Cook for 2–3 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Add whole peeled tomatoes with juice and water. Use a spoon to crush the tomatoes and mix them with the vegetables.

Add tomato paste and sliced sausage. Stir well, cover with lid, and reduce heat to medium-low.

Continue cooking until internal temperature of sausage slices reaches 160–165°F using your

thermometer.

Uncover and stir. If too liquidy, cook uncovered for a few minutes until thickened.

Remove from heat and preheat your broiler.

Slice 4 hero rolls and lay cut-side up on a foil-lined baking sheet.

Fill rolls with sausage and peppers. Top with shredded cheese and broil until melted and slightly browned. Garnish with oregano and fresh basil. Fold and enjoy!
