INGREDIENTS

Ingredients:

  • 6 Tbsp. Butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup Applesauce
  • 2/3 cup Sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. Milk
  • 1 tsp. Vanilla Extract
  • 1.25 cups Flour or Gluten-Free Flour Blend
  • 1 tsp. Baking Powder
  • 1 tsp Cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. Baking Soda
  • 1/2 tsp. Ground Ginger
  • 1/8 tsp. Nutmeg
  • Pinch of Allspice
  • Pinch of Salt
  • 3 Eggs
  • 1 cup Apples peeled and chopped
  • 1/2 cup chopped Walnuts, divided

Icing:

  • ½ cup Powdered Sugar
  • ½ tsp. Vanilla Extract

Milk to thin

How to Make it

Step 1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. In a bowl, cream the butter and sugar together. Add in the applesauce, milk and vanilla


Step 2. In another bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, spices and salt. Pour the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients and mix until combined. Whisk the eggs and combine the eggs in the batter. Fold the chopped apples and half of the walnuts into the batter.


Step 3. Grease an 8” pan and line it with parchment. Pour the batter into the pan and sprinkle the rest of the chopped walnuts on top. Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the internal temperature of the cake reads 190-195 degrees Fahrenheit on your ThermoPro thermometer. Set the cake aside to cool.


Step 4. After the cake has cooled, sift the powdered sugar into a bowl. Whisk in the vanilla extract and milk 1 teaspoon at a time until the icing reaches your desired thickness. Pour the icing over the top of the cake. Slice and enjoy.
