This meat thermometer has an update rate that’s much faster than any other I’ve used (and I’ve used quite a few). It’s very accurate, and it’s easy to use. Many of the cheap ones (there are thousands out there, mostly no-name stuff manufactured as cheaply as possible) try to lure you in with extra features like setting the meat type and alarms that sound when it’s “done”, but these things are always more trouble than they’re worth. I have one like that – it gets in its own way. You’re not supposed to be leaving it in the food, it’s a quick read thermometer, so why does it need an alarm? Just read the number, and when it’s high enough, it’s done. The ThermoPro does it right. It’s simple to use, The sample rate is quick, much quicker than any other I’ve seen. The numbers are illuminated, which is nice. One of my other thermometers has no illumination at all, and another one requires finding and pressing a button to turn on a backlight. The ThermoPro is also light weight.Ultimately, there are only a couple of things that I wish were different. First, the size. It’s pretty big, and the light weight combines with the size to make it feel kind of “empty” inside. I haven’t disassembled it so I don’t know if that’s true, but I had an older ThermoPro years ago that was more compact and I prefer that form factor (of course, that one didn’t have the quick update rate or the improved display). The only other thing is the magnet. I use the magnets on my thermometers to stick them on the side of the range hood when I’m not using them so they’re always available. The magnet supplied with this model is weaker than the others that are currently stuck up there, to the point where it’s not perfectly stable when on a vertical surface.I almost docked a star for that, but ultimately I couldn’t because I really like this device too much. Feel free to dock a star from my rating in your head if that’s something important to you.
