HOW TO COOK NEW YORK STRIP STEAK
New York Strip Steak is a classic cut of beef known for its rich flavor and perfect balance of tenderness and marbling. Often considered a favorite among steak enthusiasts, this cut delivers a satisfying bite and a juicy, robust taste that’s hard to resist. This dish is an ideal choice for any occasion. Follow our New York Strip Steak recipe below to learn how to cook it at home.
STEP 1:
Remove steaks from packaging and warm to room temperature (at least 30 minutes). Pat the steak dry with a paper towel and season generously.
STEP 2:
To monitor the internal temperature of your ingredients, insert the meat probes for a ThermoPro Twin TempSpike Dual-Probe Meat Thermometer. This device will allow you to cook the steak to whichever level of doneness you want without any danger of overcooking.
STEP 3:
Add oil to a cast iron pan or skillet and heat on high until smoking hot. Then, turn heat down to medium-high and carefully add the strip steaks to the pan, rendering the fat side first. Sear for 2-3 minutes without moving so it can caramelize and have a nice sear. Repeat for the other side.
STEP 4:
Cook until the target temperature has been reached (135°F-145° F (57°C-63°C) for medium, 130°F-135°F (54°C-57°C) for medium-rare).
STEP 5:
Next, baste the steak by adding rosemary, thyme, garlic, and butter to the pan.
STEP 6:
Once the desired level of doneness has been reached, take the steaks off the stove and let rest for 10 minutes. Serve, and enjoy the New York Strip Steaks!
