I really like this thermometer. It’s really accurate, and very easy to use. It does have a plastic head, but as long as you are careful with how you use it, that doesn’t matter. I’ve used it for grilling, candy, and baking without any issues.

  2. TGBEV

    Large screen

  3. Nivens

I originally purchased this thermometer for my oil distillation kit, the long probe made it ideal for my chemistry needs! Highly recommend if you smoke, roast or grill LARGE pieces of meat! SUPER accurate to .09, sturdy AF and this bad boy runs on a single AAA battery!

  4. CMA Major Rocketman

    Verry happy with it’s performance

  5. June Wallace

    Like accuracy

Great thermometer. I love the long probe and it is good quality. It has a nice big display very nice

  7. M. Auker

I have used many many candy thermometers in the past. I make a lot of jelly and jams so it’s essential to have one that reads easily and accurately. This fits the bill and works fast.

I make pickles using a pasteurization process in which you have to keep the water in the kettle between 180 and 185 degrees for 30 minutes. It is crucial to keep it in that temperature range. Too hot and the pickles are mushy. Not hot enough and they are not shelf safe. I use two probes when pasteurizing, and my old “stick” probe was too short so it sat too close to the water surface and would fog up where you could not read it. This unit is great with the extra long metal probe and the handy clip that attaches to the kettle. It has made pickle making a lot easier. I tested the temperature read out against my other two thermometers and it is pretty much spot on. W

When I first received this thermometer, I immediately took a look at the mounting bracket. I’ve seen too many that don’t fit a pan or don’t fit multiple pans. This one, looking oddly, did fit on every one of my pots. Like many I imagine, I have a variety of cookware that has a likewise variety of lips. This clip fit everyone of them and still provided a clean angled approach for the probe to be immersed in the liquid. Definitely a plus for me.I wanted to verify the calibration so I followed the instructions for the setting of freezing or 0 degrees C or 32 degrees F. Having done that I proceeded to try and check boiling, which is 212 degrees F for me. All worked well except for the fact that my water boiled at 210.4 degrees which led me to think that maybe this thermometer would not be accurate. This led to a Google search of boiling temperature of water which I knew would depend on elevation. I love physics. I found out that for my elevation, at least in the state capitol, gave water a boiling point of 210.7 degrees. That’s within .3 degrees of the reading. I think I will enjoy this thermometer especially since my main reason for getting it is to accurately measure temperatures for cheese making. Happy Gruyere. I would recommend this product. It’s well made and is definitely quite accurate.

  12. Lousy cook

    Made fudge very accurate

  13. k.Toledo

Does not have an audible alarm, just flashes when its at the temp WHICH IS NOT AN ALARM!

  14. michael c

Professional grade candy/fry thermometerI used it for both frying eggplant and cooking isomalt for my cake decoratingThe clip holds it to the pan securely and it’s accurate reading on the large screen is what I needed.Takes 1 aaa battery

  15. MJ

I specifically needed a digital thermometer with a long enough probe to reach far enough down into the tall pans I have to use when I make cheese or candy and this one fit the bill. So far I have only used it in making cheese but it worked perfectly I am very happy with this product.

  16. Nerd Alert

My first thermometer came with a broken screen, so I contacted the company and they quickly sent a replacement. The thermometer is one of my favorites, handling high heats for candy making and have a screen that is easy to read. A standard pot clip holds it in place. Compared to reading the glass type, it is big upgrade. I recommend it based on the company being nice to work with and it being a nice product.

    1) This thermometer is probably the best and simplest thermometer out there.2) Its long and able to be angled for indoor stock pot cooks, candy, boils, etc.3) Its totally usable for meat temps, bbq, etcIts a win win for me.

  18. Rocky d

WORKS GREAT AND CLIPS EASILY TO YOUR POT. Read out is clear and this probe is accurate. A quality product in my opinion.

  19. charlie123

The gauge is a bit touchy.

  20. Linda S

I do a lot of cooking where a candy-type thermometer is needed. I have gone through sooo many candy thermometers, usually those purchased at the grocery store. They usually end up with breaks in the “mercury,” which renders them inaccurate–and none of the tricks seen to work to put it back together! Or they fog up and are unusable. This thermometer was not cheap, but it is worth every penny. It is digital and very easy to read. It has a clip so it stays put on the side of your vessel. And the best part, you can set it to notify you when a certain temperature is reached; this means that you can actually turn your back on the stove while you have something cooking! Just set it for a few degrees under what you want to reach to be safe! Wow! It cleans very easily under running water, and the housing is sturdy and durable. I have used it several times and have not been unhappy with it or disappointed yet. This thermometer has solved the problems of breaking mercury and fogging! Hurray! I am actually eager to get back to some candy making! Hubby loves homemade peanut brittle! If you need or desire a new candy thermometer, do try this one. I am confident that you will be as happy with it as I am.

ThermoPro TP511 Digital Candy Thermometer with Pot Clip, Programmable Instant Read Food Meat Thermometer with 8” Long Probe for Smoker Baking Grilling Candle Liquid Oil Deep Fry ThermometerI think we have more than we need of these, but I had to pick up this one. Since receiving this, we’ve used it to make a huge batch of chicken wings in a turkey fryer, a homemade blooming onion in a stockpot on the stove, and even a batch of fudge just to see how this does with candy. It is pretty easy to use, and it does have an over-temp alarm, but it is only visual, so you still have to pay attention. The product page says, “IPX5 Waterproof – Easy cleaning without worry about damaging the product” which is a bit misleading. IPX5 does not mean waterproof at all; it just means that it is protected from water jets from a nozzle, meaning that this thermometer should be able to withstand being sprayed but not immersed. It requires 2 AA batteries which you have to supply yourself. My personal recommendation for anything that spends a lot of time sitting in a drawer is that you use AA lithium batteries since they will never leak. It works really well and easily wipes clean. Recommend.

  22. Cupkate

This is such a great easy to read digital thermometer. You can use it for many types of cooking. But this isn’t a leave in type of thermometer. The housing is plastic so you cannot leave it in the oven or grill. It is a poke and remove for those measurements. But there is a handy clip for stove top cooking like keeping your sauces or candies at certain temps. Very handy tool!

  23. John H.

Damaged LED screen. Sent it back.

  24. Heather

Large display makes it easy to read at a distance. Easy to program and flashes brightly to let you know you’ve reached your temp

  25. Amz Amanda

The best thing about this thermometer is the fact that it hangs on side of your pot and stays off the bottom so that you get the temp of what you’re checking and not the pot. It’s a thermometer. I do like the fact that you can recalibrate it if/when necessary. Instructions on how to do so is simple and clear.

  26. C. OBrien

The ThermoPro TP511 candy thermometer is easy to use. It comes with a nice clip to attach to your pot so that you don’t have to hold it or keep taking it out. The clip allows you see exactly when you need to remove your pot from the stove. I love making homemade caramels but I have to know the precise temperature to get the sugar to before adding the cream. This thermometer does just that. This will save me from burning my caramel.

  27. Rob Arnold

This thermometer is extremely easy to use! I’m using it to monitor deep-fry oil, but I also will be using it for candy making in the fall! I’m also very happy that it simply uses a AAA battery and not a button cell.

I read that this works good liquids, not just meat.As someone who has struggles with Lyme disease, I have become a huge fan of foot baths, and I often have friends come over for foot baths too. The most stressful part of setting up a footbath for myself or for others is getting the correct temperature of water. In the past, I’ve played with handle until I found a temperature that seemed not too hot, but definitely warm. The result was often too hot and needed cool water or ice added, or too cool that it just didn’t feel good. After I bought this, i read online something about the 100 to 104 range, so I aimed for that. I stuck this under the stream coming out of the faucet and it quickly adjusted. When it reached 107, I figured that was close enough, and I filled the foot baths. (2 separate)I was told by both friends that the water temperature was perfect. This has relieved the stress of guessing the right temperature. now I know what I need the water to be and I can just go from there!
